Q. How long can I study on a student visa?
A. Your visa is issued for the entire length of your study you applied for, plus one extra month at the end, to a maximum of 4 years.
Q. Can I work on a student visa?
A. You are permitted to work up to 20 hours a week during course time and full-time during vacation, in Australia as an International student on student visa.
Q. Are scholarships available?
A. Yes! Scholarships are available for students. However, very few are available for postgraduate study in Universities. The majority of international students in Australia are full-fee paying students and are not awarded scholarships.
Q. How long will I need to study to reach adequate English language levels?
A. There are six major categories of English language courses catering for all levels of proficiency from beginner to advance. Full-time course duration generally ranges from 4 to 48 weeks and students can enroll at any time during the year.
Q. Can I extend my study once I have started?
A. Many visas will allow you to extend your study after you have begun at SELC. You just have to go to Student Reception and tell us how long you want to extend for (you should do this at least 2 weeks before you are supposed to finish your present course). You then have to pay the prescribed fees before you re-commence. Please keep in mind visa requirements.
Q. Do I need a visa to study in Australia?
A. Yes. To be granted a student visa you must complete a visa application form, lodge it with the evidence required, pay the application charge and satisfy the student visa requirements. You can be granted a student visa only if you intend to study a registered course on a full-time basis and comply with a number of visa conditions after you have entered Australia.
Q. How much does it cost to study in Australia?
A. An Australian Government survey showed that in terms of total costs-including tuition fees and living expenses-Australia is consistently less expensive than USA and the UK. Tuition fee will vary depending on the course or institution. This website provides average costs as a guide. Living costs will also vary by location, course and lifestyle.
Q. Do I need a Student Health Cover?
A. It is not compulsory to take out personal health/travel insurance in your country before you come to Australia, but strongly recommended. However, if you are on a Student Visa you must take out Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
