Is study abroad for me?

Study abroad is for anyone who wants to broaden their horizons and make most of their college experience. Opportunities are available for any student who wishes to take advantage of the many possibilities available through AvenuesAbroad.com


What can study abroad do for me?


Study Abroad can introduce students to other people and cultures that they otherwise might never have had the opportunity to experience.


When can I study abroad?


Fall, Spring, the full academic year, or Summer. Semester and academic year programs may require junior-year standing . However, you may study abroad at any time. If you are interested in studying abroad your senior year, you must request approval from the Dean of the College and discuss graduation information with the Registrar's Office.


When should I start looking into study abroad?


As soon as possible. There are many things that need to be taken care of before you go abroad and it is best to allow yourself as much time as possible to take care of everything.


How far in advance should I apply for a program?


The requirements for each program vary. Most of the universities begin taking in applications at the beginning of the semester prior to the semester in which you plan to go abroad. It is best to turn in your application as soon as you decide on a program, as spaces are limited. Most of the programs require that you apply two semesters prior to that in which you intend to study.


What is the tuition fee for a study abroad program?


The tuition fee varies according to each particular program and from university to university. The costs can be found in the University bulletin for a particular program.

What is housing like on a study abroad program?

Housing varies from program to program. Some programs house students with local families, others in dorms of local universities, while still others house students in apartments or flats with fellow students.


Are financial aid and scholarships available for study abroad programs?


Scholarships are available every semester through the Center for International Studies. Program directors and specific departments often also have their own respective scholarships available to students attending their own particular programs . Students already receiving financial aid through the university should contact the Controller's office for full details as to how their personal financial award can be applied overseas.

Do I get credit transfer for courses taken abroad?

Yes, you will get credit for having taken courses abroad.


When Should I Start Planning To Study Abroad?


Now! It's never too early to start planning. Ideally, a year in advance of your departure allows sufficient time for thorough planning and preparation. However, applying early in the semester preceding your departure is absolutely essential.
