Funds are required for living (rent, food, transport, etc.) and course costs (books and research expenses including international literature searches and data collection) in addition to tuition fees.
If you need additional financial support to your own or family resources, there are a number of possibilities worth exploring. Note that the application for funding is a separate operation from applying for admission. You may receive admission to study, but not be successful in your application for funds. You will not be granted a scholarship without admission.
1. Private or public (Government based) scholarships offered in your own country.
You will need to search for this yourself.
2. Scholarships offered by the New Zealand Government to students from developing countries
The New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID) Postgraduate Scholarships cover air fares, accommodation and living expenses, as well as tuition fees. Please note that the number of scholarships awarded is very limited, and only students with exceptional grades will be considered. If your country is temporarily off the list of countries currently being considered (this occasionally happens due to the very small number of scholarships available) then your application for admission will not be considered until evidence of an alternative funding source is provided. Application forms are available from International Centers at New Zealand universities or your nearest New Zealand diplomatic post.

3. Scholarships provided by the New Zealand Government, but offered through your own country's Government procedures
The New Zealand Government offers NZAID Study Awards to selected students from the Pacific, South America and South East Asian countries. Study Awards cover air fares, basic accommodation and living expenses, as well as tuition fees.
Students must be nominated by the Government of their own country, and should contact their nearest New Zealand Embassy or Government office for further details.
4. Commonwealth Scholarships
Students living in British Commonwealth countries have access to Commonwealth Scholarships, which cover tuition fees and some living expenses. These are available for graduate students only. Enquiries should be made at your local university.
5. Individual New Zealand University Scholarships
Please enquire at each university for further information about their own scholarships available to international students.
6. Students from France and Germany
Postgraduate students pay only the domestic tuition fees under a reciprocal agreement between the governments.
